Who Should Not Start Testosterone Therapy

January 15, 20261 min read

Testosterone therapy is powerful—but it is not universal.

One of the most responsible clinical decisions is knowing when not to prescribe it.

Men who are not ideal candidates often include those with:

Untreated sleep apnea

Poorly controlled metabolic disease

Active fertility goals

Temporary hormonal suppression from stress or illness

Low testosterone on a lab report does not automatically mean replacement is required.

In many cases, testosterone levels improve when sleep, stress, nutrition, and metabolic health are addressed first.

Good medicine prioritizes timing and appropriateness—not speed.

The goal is long-term health, not short-term numbers.
